RMMS Student Handbook

SCHOOL HOURS

School is in session from 8:35 a.m. to 3:24 p.m. All students should leave the grounds by 3:45 p.m., unless they are requested to stay by a teacher or are participating in a supervised activity. RMMS has a closed campus policy. This means students are not to leave the school grounds after their arrival each morning until the bus takes them home in the afternoon, unless with a parent/guardian.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

If a student is absent from school for any reason, we ask that parents call the day of the absence to excuse the student. If that is not possible, please send a note with the student the day he/she returns to school. The student will need an admit slip to get back into class upon returning. If a student needs to be taken out of school during the school day, the parent or guardian should stop at the attendance office. The student will be sent for and signed out. To ensure the safety of our students and your children, we will not release a student to anyone other than a parent or guardian. Please pick your student up at the Attendance Office and do not ask them to meet you in front of the building. Students are to check in at the Attendance Office if returning to school during the day.

REPORT CARDS

Students will receive two report cards each semester. Final report cards will be mailed home to students at the end of the year.

LOCKERS

Lockers are issued to students at the beginning of the year. Lockers are to be kept locked at all times. Students are cautioned against telling their combinations to each other or they cannot expect their property to be safe. Each student is responsible for keeping his or her assigned locker clean both inside and outside. Any locker malfunction should be reported to the office. Students are cautioned not to keep money, lunch cards, or other valuables in their locker. The school assumes no responsibility for materials students keep in their locker. The Principal of each respective school, or the Principal's designee, has the right to inspect lockers with or without cause, consistent with the Supreme Court's ruling in the case of New Jersey v. T.L.O. 105 S. Ct. 733 (1985)

HALLS

Students are to be in the halls only at the beginning and close of school and while moving from one class to the next unless they have special permission. Students in the halls during class time are to have a hall pass.

TEXTBOOKS

Upon entering the seventh grade in our District, a $20.00 Book Deposit must be paid. The fee will travel with the student until leaving the district or graduation from Bonneville High School. In courses where textbooks are required, the district furnishes them. These books are issued to students and upon receipt, the student becomes responsible for covering and properly caring for the books. Lost or damaged textbooks are to be paid for by the student. If a book is lost or damaged, the teacher will replace the book and the student will be responsible to pay for the loss/damage.

TELEPHONE

Students are not permitted to use the office phones for personal calls except in an emergency and with permission. In the event a student receives a call, that student will be called out of class only in the case of an emergency. The pay phone in the hall is for student use.

SCHOOL INSURANCE

Forms for the purchase of school insurance are available in the office. Some form of insurance must cover all students participating in athletics. Students may purchase the insurance for coverage during the school year if it is desired.

COUNSELING SERVICES

All students are assigned to a counselor by grade level. Appointments may be made by filling out a form available at the counseling center. Report to your scheduled class before going to see the counselor as teachers are to always know where students are.

VANDALISM AND PROPERTY DAMAGE

RMMS buildings and equipment cost the taxpayers to construct, purchase and maintain. Students who destroy or vandalize school property will be required to pay for losses or damages and will be referred to the Resource Officer for further prosecution. If you damage something by accident, please report it to the office or a teacher immediately.

CELL-PHONES, LASER POINTERS, RADIOS, CD PLAYERS, TOYS, PAGERS AND HAND HELD GAMES

The above items are not to be seen or heard on the school campus during school hours. Theft of these items becomes a time consuming problem for teachers and administration.
